MOSQUITOS

If mosquitoes love to be around your yard, Organic Solutions’ safe treatments using our natural products can play an important part in making your outdoor living space more enjoyable. And with West Nile Virus in the news each year, mosquitoes have become more than just a nuisance. They can be a serious health concern.

Control Measures and IPM
Reducing populations of mosquitoes is a prime example using Integrated Pest Management (IPM). Using only one technique while ignoring other aspects will probably result in poor control at best. A lot of this might seem like common sense, but... Cultural: For example, adjust landscape watering start times and durations to limit puddling. Physical: Reduce breeding areas by eliminating standing water.

Mosquitoes need only a few days and a few ounces of water to breed. Watch out for flower pot trays, bird baths, kids pools and old tires. Mosquito traps that attract using Carbon Dioxide seem to work well, just set it up far away (in your neighbors yard?) since you’ll really attract a lot of these insects.

Biological: Promote natural predators like dragon flies. For any ponds or water features, we use a natural bacterial product containing But to harmlessly control larvae before they become adults.

Sprays: As the final step, we have had excellent results in our spray treatments to control population levels of mosquitoes. This works best if performed monthly or before special events like an outdoor party. We use a natural product with no mammalian or avian toxicity while safe for most other insects, too.
